T O P I C     R E V I E W Tomb Just to let you know that a member of Hydrogen Audio has taken Audiograbber and amongst other things has added a secure test & copy function. Other features include: * Test and Copy mode for secure ripping. * Integrated automatic album art download to destination directory when ripping start, via AlbumArtDownloader (Must be installed separately). * Predefined configuration for encoding to FLAC and M4A (AAC), via DOS batch script. * Automatic embedding of album art for FLAC, MP3, and M4A files. * Automatic ReplayGain (RG, track+album) scanning for FLAC, OGG, MP3, and M4A files. * Optional automatic normalization by applying RG album gain on MP3 and M4A files * Better default settings for Audiograbber. * Bundled updated FLAC and OGG Vorbis encoders and tools. It makes life easier. My Audiograbber Guides Tomb Been testing this out on ripping a disc to FLAC and it works perfectly. You will need to open the encode.bat file in Notepad to find additional instructions on getting this to work. You will also need the screen maximised and make sure you are using English language or it will not work. I would like the "help bubble" notifying if a rip was successful or not to remain and not disappear after a few seconds especially if you are away from the pC as you cannot tell otherwise if a rip was successful or not. Will try using other formats without using the script file which only works for m4a and FLAC. My Audiograbber Guides Force Apparently my procrastination with acquiring a more recent ripper has paid off. I've always felt that with a few tweaks Audiograbber would match or surpass "secure" rippers like dbPowerAmp. I'm very much interested in trying this out and I hope the development continues. yada I have tried and tried, but can't get this to encode. I have chosen external encoder as encoder.bat and %s %d "%1" "%2" "%3" "%4" "%5" "%6" "%7" "%8" as the parameters. I have also selected rip all tracks before encoding. AG seems to rip the wav, but then the flac encoder flashes an error that I can't see. All that is left is the wav files in the directory. Is there something I can add to the .bat file to pause the encoder screen so I can see what the error is? or any other suggestions. Thanx yada I should mention I am trying to encode to flac. dd_wizard This is great! I have to agree with Force, Audiograbber is still a good ripper. So good that I donated back when it was still shareware. I picked it a few years ago over CDex and EAC, and every time I check out their sites I still see stability issues. AG had working, native CD drive support a LONG time ago. With replay gain and secure ripping, AG has taken the lead again! I did some beta debugging for Jackie a few years ago, and he was very responsive about fixing bugs. Has he given any thought to opening up the source or passing the project on to another developer? From the issues I've seen in the CDex and EAC FAQs and forums, I think AG is still ahead of both products. And I'm running it on Vista, an operating system that didn't exist when v1.83 was released! Yada, I haven't tried FLAC yet, but I remember a post about AG's short command line buffer. Maybe you're passing too much to the bat file? Luckily there are not too many problems with Vista but judging by the small amount of visitors to this forum and moderating I do now I guess interest in AG is at it's lowest for some time. Trouble is that the latest versions of dbpoweramp and Foobar surpass many of the features AG has, and have secure ripping and replaygain support too, but luckily people like tycho are carrying out fixes in their spare time. Did you turn off "Append checksum to comment field."? It might be needed to implement Test & Copy. dd_wizard dd_wizard Ignore my previoust post, Yada, sometimes it finishes the test pass and doesn't start the copy pass for me too. But there's more. This is amazingly funny. Augiograbber works perfectly on Vista, but agtray doesn't! ROFL Considering that AG was written before Vista existed says a lot about Jackie's programming skills. AG transparently puts audiograbber.ini and discs.txt in C:\Users\Gene\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Audiograbber. This is where they need to go with User Access Control turned on in Vista because AG can't write to C:\Program Files\audiograbber unless you run it elevated to administrator. Agtray however, tries to work in C:\Program Files\audiograbber and never gets it's .ini file initialized unless you run it once as Administrator. Then you can edit the agtray.ini file to show the command window while it's running batch files. I'm going to post on the download thread for agtray and see if the author minds fixing the .ini file issue. Also, I'll ask him to optionaly leave the command window open AFTER the batch file runs so I can see why the copy pass didn't start. When it works, it's great. I'm not using album art, but the test & copy works when it manages to start the copy pass. Replay gain works too, I see the gain adjustments in Winamp after a rip. One question. Now that lame encodes the same with presets and the bit rate settings available in AG, there's no need for the experimental AG version you have linked in your site. However, I think the MP3QualityMode=High line in audiograbber.ini is meaningless? Does it do anything to lame 3.97? Or does it breaks things since lame expects one of the appropriate values listed on your site and the pages you link to? Thanks for replying, dd_wizard
