I was trying to rip from a CD when I got this message: "Access Violation at address 0051B9BC. Read of address00000018." This is an old CD (1994) so there is no copy protection. Suggestions?

Maybe the surface is damaged and maybe you are trying to directly rip to mp3, resulting in lots of read errors (speed problems) until your system does not support them anymore. The first test should be ripping to wav and setting AG to "Buffered Burst Copy" as ripping method, and reducing the current DAE Speed.Hope will be enough

The surface had a few scraches, but I fixed it with my SkipDR (excellent tool that fixes even the worst surface!). I am using Buffered burst Copy and I am ripping via a WAV then it's deleted. I tried all the other options but no go... Nothing happened when I tried to reduce the speed. Audiograbber can playback all the track flawlessly from the CD. I tried a different CD just to make sure and that one worked like a dream! What the hell???

Access violation is a nasty problem. I don't think that error actually happens in the code within AG, but is rather a common problem in the OS and the way programs are allowed to access the discs.I would go with buffered burst in a case like this. Try dynamic sync, or any other sync method and see if it works better. If it won't rip, try some other ripper program. If it still fails, you will have to rip it using analogue *sigh* ------------------ moonroy www.mp3.com/enuresis

Well, maybe your system does not like that kind of music In addition to what moonroy suggests (using another ripper) I should try one more thing: using another cd. If your system can make a copy from this cd (with Clone CD or so) then you may try to rip the new one. If AG can do it, the original cd is definetively ET. If not, then: Is that cd rippeable/cloneable/readable in any other PC or a different cd-rom device? If yes, and your system can clone everything except that particular cd, then your system definitively hates that music. If not, your cd is definitively damaged an maybe can be read in cd-players only. This should be verified by testing with some different cd-rom devices.

Now I've tried copying the CD then ripping. I also tried another PC, but still the damned error. Both the original and the copy can be played back in any CD-player, stand alone or PC-based. AG also...So, any suggestions to a different grabber? [This message has been edited by Popsicle on 12 February 2003 @ 03:00]

Sometime I'll get the odd CD that my Plextor CDRW will lock up on trying to rip, it does not matter what ripping method I try to use, it will just keep locking up the PC. But pop it into my slot load Pioneer DVD drive and it rips no problem.Different drives, different behavior. ------------------ -I love my Empeg!-
