I’m still having problems getting Audiograbber working with the Windows XP Professional operating system.

When the general settings tab is ASPI - when I refresh the CD – Audiograbber does not see or list the tracks of the CD.

If I set the ‘general setting’s to the Analogue tab – it does see and list the tracks – but the WAV files - that it rips are empty (it writes full length WAV files but they only containing low level background system noise – they are full length but empty. I know this because I’ve examined them in a Waveform editor)

I did what a good customer should do and read the Audiograbber FAQs.

I had hoped to find a section on using the product with Windows XP.

Then I saw this text in the FAQ:

Qoute:

‘Audiograbber 1.62 or higher does not, however, need any ASPI manager under Win NT, 2000 or XP.

Instead it reroutes the calls to the drive via something named Native NT calls but you need to be logged in as administrator to enable this.

If you install an ASPI manager you do not need to be logged in as administrator.

Additional files: Adaptec has now released version 4.71 of their ASPI manager and it works on Windws 98/ME/NT/2000 and XP! Get it for free from Adaptecs page at: http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/drivers_by_product.html?sess=no&cat=%2fProduct%2fASPI-4.70&prodkey=Windows+ASPI+Package’

End of above quote:

So my question is this: When using audiograbber under Windows XP professional do I download the adaptect ASPI manager or do I enable Native NT calls – if I enable Native NT calls – how do I do that?

Thanks and sorry to trouble you with this but I guess there will be a lot of people using Audiograbber with XP in the near future.

With best wishes,

Tim.

AG works fine in any win9x/nt/2k/xp environment if the os is setup correct. If the ASPI is not greyed out in the settings, then you should be able to use it. In the settings you can switch between aspi or nt/2k-calls that are the native calls.

If AG can not find your drive using ASPI, make sure you have set the desired drive as rip drive in the general settings. Somehow if you have more than one drive there is a chance you have forgot to tell AG what drive you are using. Also, some versions of AG had problems detecting drives so make sure you have the latest build of AG.

Analog rip method should not be used since the quality of the ripped files will be much lower than the original. But if you do want to rip using it, make sure you have set the CD as recording source in the windows mixer.

Hi, Thank you for your reply.

In my 'General settings': The ASPI TAB is ticked (checked) the 'Call drive via' option has ASPI manager in grey (not selectable) and the WIN NT/2000 option in black which is selected. i.e. I do not have the choice.

So I think that means I am asking audiograbber to use WIN NT/2000 native calls. But dont I need to do something somewhere to enable these somehow?

So what do I need to do to make it work?

Do I need to enable the native calls somehow within the XP operating system or do I need to click on the FAQ link to download the ASPI manager ?

What would you recommend ?

I dont know how to enable the native calls so if you recomend that - then can you tell me how I do it please?

Thanks Moonroy - I'm sure your advice here will one day help other people too.

Audiograbber normally kicks ass - and I'm sure its just a question of me not configuring it properly for XP thats all.

With best wishes,

Tim.

OK so ASPI is greyed out but native calls are not? And they do not work? Strange but it can happen in rare situations.

Install an ASPI manager instead. Search for ForceASPI 1.7 which contains Adaptec 4.60, that version is the most stable. Newer 4.7x may also work but some people have reported problems with it. You need to be logged on as administrator while installing. Run the KILLASPI, reboot, INSTALLASPI, reboot, and it should work.

While you are at it, download the ASPICHK.EXE from Adaptec and see what it reports before and after installing ForceASPI.
