This site below solved my Windows XP professional ASPI problems.I can recomend it if you have XP and need to install an ASPI layer. Just make sure you read it carefully and remeber to re-boot as requested and install the ASPI files using the start menu Accessories dos command prompt ( i.e. runthe install programs from the dos prompt - dont double click on them within windows explorer!) http://forceaspi18.w.interia.pl/ I can confirm Audiograbber works well with XP professional if ASPI layer installed from the above site carefully from command prompt. (Dont make mistakeof trying to install it from within Windows explorer!) I just wanted to share this good news. Timbo bimbo

A working aspi layer is almost a must for ripping. The 1.8 version is using the free Adaptec 4.7x layer. The older 1.7 is using non-free 4.6 layer, and is in some cases more stable than 4.7x.------------------ moonroy www.mp3.com/enuresis

OK, now I'm confused. I thought XP had an ASPI layer built in already (thus, the "WinNT/2000 Calls" checkbox in Audiograbber). So why is it necessary to force-install an Adaptec ASPI layer on it? Is the built-in "WinNT/2000 Calls" layer crap? I tried forceASPI and I got a WHOLE lot more ASPI errors, where the ripping just suddenly stops with an error, when using that layer than if I just go with the "WinNT/2000 Calls." At least with the "WinNT/2000" calls, I can rip the whole CD without it bombing out.[This message has been edited by PenaltyShot on 29 December 2003 @ 12:39]

XP does not come with an aspi layer. The NT/2K calls is a different technique of accessing the drive although the result of the rip will be the same.Download and run the ASPICHK.EXE and verify that all your aspi files are version 4.60 and you will be sure you have the most stable aspi layer. ------------------ moonroy www.mp3.com/enuresis

I was able to resolve this problem by installing the complete aspi_471a2.exe package from adaptec.com on Windows XP Professional by using the following steps...> aspi_471a2.exe > cd \adaptec\aspi > extract winaspi.dl_ winaspi.dll > extract wowpost.ex_ wowpost.exe > copy winaspi.dll c:\windows\system > copy wowpost.exe c:\windows\system > install.bat XP32 > aspichk.exe
