progress

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If I am to do this it will be with cavs. I could not get ag to work without 90 percent error. With cavs, I can now extract at 320 kb and 16 speed. The files show up in whatever folder I tell them. After extracting, I close, then go to the file I sent them to, and rename them---like if I called one song mk, then then I must rename one file 00001.mp3 and the other 00001.mcg. I can do that now, and that is progress. I can do 1.1, probably can do 1.2, and I have figured out 2.1. Now, 2.2 through the rest of it make no sense to me. I only need numbers---I don't care about titles and artists, unless it is necessary. I have no idea how to make a text file called scdg.cfg. I might have accomplished step 3.1 and 3.2. I go to files shared on this computer--one thing says shared documents. When I click a folder I created called scdg, i9t has 6 things ---scdg ms.botch file 1kb, scdg1, scdg2, scdg3, scdg_encoder, and a folder called cavs_msg. The folder can be opened to show the songs I extracted and the renaming in 5 digits. 2.2 I do not understand, and 3.3 says to doubleclick scdg.bat. Nothing really happens---not sure if I am making progress.
songs in MCG/MP3 file format

1.1 Extracting MCG/MP3 files from CD+G discs
To make MCG/MP3 files, you can use the Encoder MCG program that will extract the MCG/MP3 files from the standard CD+G discs. This process requires CD-RW drive that is compatible to CD+G format, such as Plextor CD-RW drives (List of CD+G compatible CD-RW drives).

1.2 Download MCG/MP3 files from CAVS Online Library
At CAVS Online Library, there are over 11,000 CD+G songs in MCG/MP3 file formats. Go online and purchase the songs for immediate download.

Step 2. Preparing MCG/MP3 files

2.1 Rename the MCG/MP3 files with 5 digit numbers (sequentially) as below: 00001.MCG, 00001,MP3
00002.MCG, 00002.MP3
...

2.2 Make a text file called, SCDG.CFG, that has the song number (same as the file name), title, and artist separated by # sign as follows: 00001#Love me tender#Elvis
00002#Yesterday#Beatles
...

WARNING: For the names of title and artist, use only alphanumeric characters. Other symbols such as !,@,#,$,%,^,&,*,_,-,+,=,[,... are NOT allowed.

Step 3. Making a DAT file from MCG/MP3 files

3.1 Create a directory in PC, such as C:\SCDG\. Copy all MCG/MP3 files prepared in Step 2 into the directory. Also copy the SCDG.CFG file into the directory

WARNING: Be sure to make a backup copy of all MCG/MP3 files and scdg.cfg file in another directory of your PC.

3.2 Download the SCDG Encoder Program, scdg_encoder.exe, into your PC and copy it into the directory C:\SCDG\. Double click on scdg_encoder.exe to unzip following four programs in the directory: SCDG.BAT
SCDG1.exe
SCDG2.exe
SCDG3.exe

3.3 Double click on SCDG.BAT. The batch process will begin to make a DAT file from the MCG/MP3 files. When the process is completed, a subdirectory C:\SCDG\CAVS_MCG will be created inside the directory C:\SCDG\. Inside this subdirectory, you will find a .dat file.

Actually, neither of the steps from CAVS are that hard to follow so I don't really see the problem with the instructions. However, renaming 1000+ files twice, and then typing the thousand filenames once more in a text document (open notepad, start typing, save as SCDG.CFG) is something I would never do. And what if the DVD breaks down in the bar? You need to burn many copies of it to be sure.

Headphone out is not the way to go. You need line-out, or to buy an external usb-sound card that has line-out. Somehow, you need a better audio output than headphone. I don't know what the prices are in USA for laptops but somewhere around $1000 sounds fair to me for a decent one.

goldenhawk's CDRWin does TOO support karaoke. BUT after ripping the files from your karaoke cdg, they are now in .bin format. THEN you must convert .bin to .mp3 and .cdg files.

In order to do that, you need mp3toolz.

OR you can use Audiograbber to directly rip to mp3+g.

I have no problem using golden hawk to store karaoke songs as bins. They are easy to write to a new blank cd.

I have no problem using my plextor to store karaoke songs as mp3 and mcg files. It stores two files for each song it extracts. These are then written into a notepad file called scdg.cfg. Batch stores them in a folder called cavs_mcg. There is a DAT file in that folder. When I try to write this folder (cavs says write the entire folder) to a disc nothing seems to be put on the disc.

There does not seem to be a problem storing karaoke songs on my hard drive either as bins, or mp3s and mcgs.

The problem is figuring out how to put mp3s and mcgs, or the combination of them that makes them a karaoke song on a disc.

I might try putting them on as bins first, and then changing them----still---I need them in a form which can be written to a disc.

To play CD+G CDs on your system try PowerKaraoke CD+G player. (www.powerkaraoke.com)
For CD+G files (mp3+G) you can download a free codec from http://karaoke-dx.sourceforge.net
This codec allows any DirectX capable player to play CDG files on your computer (except the compressed ones that CAVS uses)
WinCDG Pro will also rip CD+G disks, but Audiograbber generally works best.
to name the files use MP3+G Toolz. also free.

I have come a long way since November.

I ended up bying a laptop from walmart---it was about 650---I would have spent more or less, but it had one huge feature which---for the life of me---I do not understand why others do not include. The video out----an absolute necessity to use a laptop for karaoke. Cavs was impossibly unreliable. They have insisted on a format slightly different than mp3 plus g. I use power cdg to mpg to change everything into mpgs. They are about 20 percent the size of the originals and perfect and reliable. I can change mp3 plus g into cdg by using a toolz program, then make them into mpgs.

I wish I had been able to figure out the mp3 plus g, but I slammed into every roadblock imaginable no matter what I did. I probably tried 15 different programs.

Changing almost anything to mpgs is a piece of cake. I have backup copies of everything on a set of discs. 2500 songs took about 60 percent of my 40 gig harddrive space on my little Walmart laptop.

Used it about 100 nights--no problems, very fast.

drop the lame_enc.dll in the c:\audiograbber\ folder.
on startup Audiograbber will recognise and use it to encode.

PowerkaraokePlus will convert them to bin files just fine and it is an easy process.

Audiograbber to rip to mp3+g.

When burning them back...GO SLOW OR THEY WILL COME OUT BAD! 4x is best.

Use PowerkaraokePlus to create your bin files, no numerical renaming required, then to mace your cue sheet.

burn them with whatever burner.

simple enough.

OK I am new to the CAVS globe. I purchased CAVS 203g USB with their HD for the reason that I read it can hold thousands of karaoke songs and playback can be remotely entered cue'd in a list for autoplay. Not having to change disks for every song. Now that I have it, i have been told that MCGmanager only holds 250 songs in each folder (CDG)so my new 4000 SCDG songs have to be put into a folder and my older 2000+ CDG's in another. I wanted to combine all on one Harddrive and give them each its own unique number. I was then told that there is a SCDGripper program (not CAVS product) that is out there to do this. Any hits about this life saving proprietary software?
