The recording mixer will not open in Vista for Line In recording. I tried installing the drivers for my Soundblaster but still don't get anything. Does anyone have any ideas?

Problem is that all other windows versions uses a program called sndvol32.exe for standard mixer. Vista however does not have that name for the mixer, but it is called simply SndVol.exe (in the windows/system32 folder). Audiograbber does not know this and can not launch any mixer. It does not really matter though, you can launch the mixer yourself by double clicking the speaker icon next to the clock at the bottom right. ------------------ moonroy, Moderator

Yes, I tried that but it doesn't work because it only opens the playing mixer that only has 2 sliders on it for Main and Apps volume. There is no option for switching to the Recording mixer.

They must have removed the sound recorder mixer console in Vista because they want everyone to use the Windows Sound Recorder. The Sound Recorder doesn't record MP3's though.

Yeah, maybe the want that. As for now, AG can still work. Press Start and then Control Panel. Then click Hardware and Sound and then Audio Devices. Scroll down and you will see your AUDIO INPUTS. Right click the one you want and set as default for All Users. Then start AG, and it should be able to use whatever input you selected. It worked for my SB Live and my internal Nvidia nForce. ------------------ moonroy, Moderator

No, that won't work since like I said before, there aren't any recording controls. I found the solution to the problem though, the sound mixer file, sndvol32.exe is missing in Vista. The same thing sometimes happens when updating to XP-SP2. To replace it copy it from a Windows XP machine and paste it into the \system32 folder. More details can be found in this M/S Knowledge Base article, http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q319095

As I said before, setting the correct INPUTS as default worked for my two soundcards and I can't see why it shouldn't work for others in a similar way, especially in your case since I also have a soundblaster card.------------------ moonroy, Moderator

It didn't work because there were no inputs! Installing the sndvol32.exe program gave it inputs but they still don't work. I can select different outputs but when I bring up the recording mixer and select different inputs I still don't get any audio. I'm giving up on Vista. It's not yet ready for prime time.

Shades of Windows 2000! It drove me up the wall when I could not adjust my volume levels. Finally, I went to XP - simply awesome. Vista? Not for me! I don't want any operating system that doesn't offer me the mixer.------------------ Harry http://harry.cckerala.com Kerala, S. India images & all kinds of music

Maybe there's a way to copy the sndvol.exe and name it sndvol32.exe. Will AG then work?

I came to the forums having the same problem but soon figured out that on my system in particular in the sound devices recording tab "stereo mix" was disable and not being displayed, all you may have to do is enable and set as default and Voila! Thanks to all the solutions on here, this was a quick fix.

Great tip by STEVEC5000...There are many difficulties using AG with VISTA. It is a real pain. I wonder if some kind soul would create a new version of AG for Vista? I would HAPPILY pay for it! After all the great use I got out of 1.83 I would gladly pay for that too, but don't know how. Great to see others still struggling along with this great software!

Hey, the problem 90% of the time is you just don't know where to look. Not your fault they did hide it a bit took me about a year to find it. control panel > sound > recording tab If you don't see your input right click and select show all disabled and whatever. NOW the key part _hearing_ what you are inputting like mic or line in control panel > sound > playback right click on whatever your output is mine says internal speaker/headphone and select properties. Go to the tab that says levels. wallah! now you can turn up the volume for all your inputs to go out to your main out as well. If someone needs screen shots or more directions I can e-mail it or maybe put up a blog on it somewhere.
