I just tried to put Audiograbber on my new Windows Vista machine. Some parts of the program do not work. The main window does not have some features. I cannot open the MIXER control. Any suggestions?

The Mixer does not work under Vista. It's the only known fault so far. What are the others you have found?

Audiograbber works up to XP. As it is no longer developed I doubt we will see a fully Vista compatible version.

Thanks Tom. I have not fully explored Audiograbber in Vista yet but Mixer is a very important tool for digitization. I do hope that a Vista update will be available. I am now looking for some other comparable freeware. I would welcome suggestions.

Try using this FAQ -
http://www.applian.com/support-vista.php

Enable "Stereo Mix", and then right click on the speaker in the system tray, select "Recording Devices", right click on "Stereo Mix" and adjust the volume.

Works for me!

I can't get the internal Fraunhofer codec to work in Vista.

Yeah LAME is better for quality, but I'm looking for good quality low bitrate and the smallest possible file size for long voice mp3s. Sigh. Vista.

Likewise I cant get Fraunhofer "internal"

Microsoft has ensured that you cannot use the Fraunhofer codec in Vista for use by third party applications such as Audiograbber.

It states that:

In Windows Vista, you cannot use the Fraunhofer IIS MPEG Layer-3 codec (L3codeca.acm) to create MPEG-1 Layer 3 (MP3) content in a third-party application.

Because of licensing restrictions, you cannot use the L3codeca.acm file that is included in Windows Vista to encode MP3 content.

I have Windows Vista and I installed Audiograbber anyway, and it works perfect.

The glitches that Audiograbber encounters using Vista are for features that the average person doesn't use.

You can convert your CD's to MP3's without any problems

hello tomb

I posted in december that I had no trouble grabbing tracks from my cd's using windows vista...problem is that it's saving the files as Windows Media Audio file (.wma)and not as Mp3.

The settings are exsactly the same as my other computer using windows office, so it should be doing the same, grabbing the wave track, converting to mp3, deleting the wave track, and saving the mp3 track.

what can I do?
am I skrewed??

I love audiograber and I hate looking for new wave to mp3 converters, every time I download a new converter I either hate it or it turns out to be a trial version.

can you recomend another converter that is as simple as audiograbber if there's no solution to my problem

Under Vista the mp3 codec that ships with Windows is no longer accessible to other programs. You will need to download the lame mp3 codec and extract the lame_enc.dll to either the Audiograbber directory or the system32 folder under WINNT.

Download lame from here.

Hi
I have a prob with audiograbber/lame on vista.
The MP3 it creates suffer from what I can only describe as "stuck record" they get part way through the MP3, then a section of about 3-5 seconds just loops endlesly as the counter carries on counting seconds.
Wierd huh.
any ideas?
Ian

I bought a Vista laptop that has no line-in inputs, so I'm using a SoundBlaster Live 24 bit external USB card.

The Stereo Mix fix works ok with the mono microphone input, but does not work with input from the USB card.

The question is, how can I record line in stereo to a computer with no line in inputs?

T.

Are you sure the mic input does not also double as the 'line in' stereo input, too? Usually does on laptops AFAIK...
