Dear Markov, NeoRengade, Crazy Ray, Spaceknaf, sputnik, auldyin THANK YOU! I know how to rip into both wav and mp3 (to save space) and with good burner software that converts on the fly, to burn cd's. made a couple beatles for the kids last night. Thank you for taking the time to help! TJGthis also posted in cd ram guide section. Please help me. I have hp cd writer 9100 that came with roxio/cd creator 3.5c software which recognises only wav files. Which ripper should I use to create good wav files? I have tried Nero, Real, Windows media player 7, audio grabber and winamp, etc. I think Nero is working but no titles. The others rip into formats not recognised by cd 3.5. NEXT QUESTION: what burner software should I use? I can't really figure out winamp. I think I can figure out how to use Nero and CD creator (roxio). However, I really need software for 50 year olds. thanks. tjg1999@hotmail.com ------------------ tg [This message has been edited by tg on 27 September 2001 @ 12:14]

i would suggest using AG for ripping, and using nero for burning.before you rip to wav files in AG, check the settings > naming. create filenames from artist and track name, and check the first two boxes in "sub directories" (also, note the directory/folder at the top - i think the default is c:\audiograbber - this is where the ripped tracks are stored). then goto mp3 settings and select grab to a wav file. now fill in the artist, album, and track info (or if you are connected to the internet, press the freeDB button and you should be able to download the album info automatically) and then press grab, and the tracks will be ripped to a wav file. you can then burn these to a cd using nero - by creating a new audio cd compilation and then dragging and dropping the desired wav files. note: winamp isnt a cd burner prog - it only plays music tracks. Winamp isn't a burner. It's a player I totally agree that you should rip with Audiograbber and burn with Nero. These two pieces of software are the best in their field, and definitely worth the money. And if you ever want to copy songs into MP3's, then I would suggest using the Lame encoder (version 3.89beta, executable version).

If you do not have the full version of NERO, and you already have Roxio 3.5c, I would use Audiograbber to rip wav files from CD's, and then use Roxio 3.5c (also known as Adaptec Easy CD Creator 3.5c) to burn to CD-R. Follow the tutorial on Audiograbber's site to learn how to rip the wav files from your CD's. Put those wav files in a folder you create; call it "AGmusic". Open Easy CD Creator, choose "audio" or "music" CD and then follow the creation wizard. You will be choosing your wav files from the folder you created in the order you want. When you have selected all of your tracks be sure to select "close the CD". It is a good idea to test and burn the first couple of times to get the hang of things...3.5c will NOT burn MP3's directly to CD like later versions will (or other programs like NERO). However, by converting all files to wavs first, you can use Audiograbber's "normalization" feature to keep the volume about the same on compilation discs. That should be plenty to confuse you for now. I've got an HP9100i, I'm ~50, and I'm pretty damn good at this. So hang in there!

If you want to make exact copies of CD's I suggest you use Nero... Check the helpfile of that program.

I agree with everybody: Nero is the best. But there's a better one if you only need to make exact copies from cd's. I'm talking about Clone Cd.Good for grandfathers and little childs too. Nice for copy the most uncrackeable game or a simple cda. There are only 4 icons and some few settings to adjust :-)

Hi, I'm not so keen on CloneCD for audio work and I don't do games.Nero is probably best but can be a little scary if you don't use the Wizard. auldyin PS I'm even older than the original poster, and my advice would be to keep things as simple as possible......Audiograbber and Nero are excellent for nearly all audio ripping, encoding and burning.

I'm with the majority here: Audiograbber for ripping, Nero for burning. Audiograbber is significant for its combination of functionality and ease-of-use. Nero isn't as simple as other programs, but it isnt rocket science either. The demo is fully functional for 30 days... highly recommended. It's nice to see some old farts posting here; makes this 40-something feel like a kid ------------------ Tom Appel

Hi, I resent being called and "old fart" as I much prefer to be known as a "boring old fart" (BoF) auldyin

Ok, question, why not use cd to cd copying? This way it makes an exact copy of the cd. Meaning if you put it in and use freedb it should treat it like a normal cd. If you use audiograbber to rip wavs, and you trunicate silence for example, you're not going to end up with a disc that is exact..does anyone follow me? if you look that up in freedb you may find inexact match or something else....

i follow you KevinB52379 - i sometimes use cd copy to make exact copies of a cd, and i think it is the best method for copying an entire cd (since you have an exact copy and freedb still works properly).
