Hi all, I have a file archived with WinRar. Its 112MB and i need to split it in order to make it easier to send. Does anyone know the best way to go about doing this? Thx for any help you can give me. kronk EDIT: oops, i think this should be in the general computer questions section, sorry!

Hey tomb, thanks for the link.Would the recipient of my file need hj split in order to rejoin the file upon receipt? You cant simply extract each half of the file to a folder after d'l without hj split? I was thinking of manually entering the numbers via Winrar wizard prior to sending the file. but i dont know how to calculate the exact amounts, ie: half of 112MB..etc Hope i'm not confusing you. thx kronk

Yes the other person would need a copy of the file although there is another program on the site for joining files generated by the program.I have not used HJ Split for a whiole but if I remember it can calculate the sizes for you. Alternatively you could un-rar your file and then use win rar to rar it up again and set a limit for the size of each archive. ------------------ Tom My Audiograbber Guides

Hey thx again,I think i will rar-up the file again but i need to learn what amounts (in bytes) you need to enter in the win rar box in order to split it 50/50, for this file and any other file i may need to send. I tried to split it myself but miscalculated and broke it into hundreds instead of two halves! total nightmare. there must be something that calculates the amounts for you. kronk

you've proabably already done this, but i'll add my answer anyway.i would just rerar the original into new split volumes, so no other programs are required. eg. original.rar (1 big rar file) ==> split.partX.rar (2 smaller rar files). as for the sizing, half of 112 MB is 56 MB, so you'd enter 56m as the volume size (for rar, 56m = 56 MB, while 56M = 56 million bytes). note, i'd probably use 57m instead, to ensure that only 2 parts were created. from the help file: "By default it is entered in bytes. But if you add a lowercase letter 'k' at the end of the volume size, the entered value will be considered as kilobytes (multiplied by 1024). Use an uppercase 'K' to denote thousand of bytes (multiply by 1000), 'm' means megabytes, 'M' - million of bytes, 'g' - gigabytes, 'G' - billion (milliard) of bytes." --- edit bad maths: 1/2 of 112 is 56, not 61. you'd then have to unrar twice to get the desired files: 1) unrar split.rar (split.part1.rar) ==> original.rar 2) unrar original.rar ==> "files".
