This page is now obsolete and I sugest that you go to the drive report message board instead.
If you are about to buy a new CD-ROM drive I basically recommend that you bring a version of Audiograbber to the computer
shop and test the CD-ROM drive before you buy it.
This CD-ROM drives that has been reported to read digital audio perfect.
Panasonic CR-585 24x reads digital audio perfect at about 3x speed. You should use a special driver from panasonic to enable it
to read digital audio under the OSR2 release of windows 95. Go to
http://www.panasonic.co.jp/corp/Download/cdromreadme_e.html and download the file 58x_95.exe.
Toshiba XM6102B 24x reads digital audio perfect at 1.x speed. You don't need any special driver under the OSR2 windows 95, just make sure you have the old version of scsi1hlp.vxd.
Wearnes CDD-2420 24x reads digital audio perfect at 6.x speed. You don't need any special driver under the OSR2 windows 95, just make sure you have the old version of scsi1hlp.vxd. In fact, it may read even faster, when Audiograbber reach speeds like this the processor speed and the harddisk speed becomes important too. Wearnes CDD-820 8x reads perfect audio at 2.x. It seems as the Wearnes drives are good!
Memorex CRW-1622 cd-rewriteable reads digital audio at about 2.5x speed. It reads the audio perfect only if "synch blocks" is set to 3 or 4 and then Audiograbber suddenly starts to jitter correct the data. Strange but it works...
Please report more CD-ROM drives to cddrives@audiograbber.com-us.net. Report only drives that have been tested and found to read digital audio perfect. Report drives that can be
purchased right now. (ie, no old 4x drives etc.).
